One of the saddest things to witness is the fighting and division that wills often cause in families. Heirs argue and grab whatever they can, seeking to maximise their inheritance regardless of the damage it causes. Wills can become a mirror to the soul, revealing what truly lies in our hearts. But imagine if, when the will was read, there was no money or possessions—just the words: “I am your inheritance.” The outrage would be instant. “Crazy old man! What’s he on about? Who gets the house and the car?” Yet this is exactly what the Psalmist says: “Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine” (Psalm 16:5). Our inheritance isn’t stuff—it’s someone. God gives us relationship, not riches. Joy in His presence, not fleeting happiness. The passage continues, “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (Psalm 16:11). Now that is an inheritance greater than any this world can offer. Open Bible – bit.ly/Psa16v5, bit.ly/Psa16v11 (Craig B)
