Recently my wife and I went away into the mountains and stayed in a very quiet and secluded cabin. While enjoying some sundowners we heard the most surprising sound—a lion’s roar. The second my wife heard it, she ran indoors, both of us wondering where this predator might be lying in wait. We then remembered that on the way to the cabin, we passed a big cat conservation centre. Even though it was far away, we heard the roar, for this sound can be heard from 8 kilometres away. While this is a funny story, it actually made me look into where the Bible mentions lions, and that’s when I stumbled upon Hosea 11:10 which states, “They will follow the LORD; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west.” This verse speaks of a future time when God’s people will turn back to him. After hearing this lion’s roar we were completely in awe of its power. I can now only imagine how the world will be in awe of God’s power when he one day graces us with his almighty presence and sends his Son to once again gather his scattered children.
