If you’ve ever played darts and then stopped playing for a while, you’ll know how hard it is to get back to how good you once were. When a lot of time elapses and you’re not constantly practising, your skills become rusty, and a disconnect begins between you and the board. This same principle can be applied to prayer. We create a disconnect when we are not consistently strengthening our relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayer. Colossians 4:2 tells us to “keep on praying and guard your prayers with thanksgiving.” We are specifically told to “guard” our prayers. The best way to ensure our connection with God never stops is to keep praying in and through every facet of our lives. Just as consistently practising will keep us good at darts, praying will keep us connected to God. “Never stop praying” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
