How does God see me? This is an important question to consider. We can simply say, “I am an unworthy sinner”. And, of course, this is true. But Jesus came to remove our sins and called us to fruitfulness in him (Romans 8:1). So, we still need to prayerfully consider our lives. We used to have an avocado tree in our garden. It gave us delicious avos every year. But one year, it stopped producing fruit. We couldn’t understand what had happened until we realised that one thing had changed. We had created a sandpit for our kids below the tree and put salt in the sand to keep insects away. And with this, we had destroyed the root of the tree. The prophet Hosea described Israel as “blighted, their root is withered, they yield no fruit” (Hosea 9:16). The sign of a tree’s health is its fruit. And the only way we have good fruit is if we are rooted in Jesus. “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples” (John 15:8). How does God see you? What’s your fruit look like? Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. That’s how God sees you.
