“It always seems impossible until it’s done” (Nelson Mandela). Often the circumstances of a situation appear to be overwhelming, until suddenly, if we have faith and perseverance, the goal is achieved. The prophet Habakkuk shares a picture that looks remarkably like our world today. “Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralysed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.” (Habakkuk 1:2-4). And then, in the next chapter, as God warns of a judgement coming, a verse suddenly breaks through like a bright light in the darkest night – “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14). God has promised that our world will be filled with his glory, which is his character (Exodus 33:22-34:7), like the waters cover the sea. Just like there is no sea where there is no water, there will be no earth where God’s glory and name don’t exist. It may seem impossible as we look at the world around us, but it will be done! It will happen!
