From Sand to Radiant Glass

It’s crazy to think that glass is made from sand. Sand is opaque – it hides everything behind it. Yet under intense heat, something miraculous happens: its entire inner structure is rearranged, and it becomes glass – transparent, beautiful, and entirely new. That is a picture of what Jesus does in a human life. We begin, as Genesis reminds us, as little more than dust: "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." (Genesis 2:7). Sand people, shaped from soil, opaque and scattered. Yet Jesus takes us through a transformation no human heat could achieve. His Spirit works beneath the surface, rearranging what is inside us, so that what was once closed and hidden begins to let light through. Glass hides nothing – and that is the authenticity we are called to. Not a life of dark secrets, but one which lets the light of Christ shine outward. And this transformation is not finished yet. When Jesus returns, something even more astounding awaits: a complete and final change, from perishable sand to something eternal – a "city of pure gold, as pure as glass." (Revelation 21:18). We are all being shaped, even now, from sand "transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory." (2 Corinthians 3:18). Let God's transforming light shine through you. (Craig B).
