Stop Copying, Start Becoming

What could you become, not just as a result of your own skills and ambitions, but if you let God make his masterpiece in you? There's a game where one person sees an object and draws it on the back of someone with their finger. That person then draws what they think they felt on the back of the next person. By the end the final person says what the object was – and even a simple stick figure person becomes something completely different. While each person feels they are perfectly replicating what they feel is correct the result is nothing like what it should be. We tend to do the same thing with our lives when we stop comparing to the original but faulty copies. "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2). The ideals we compare to, created by popular media are far from what God seeks to work in us. "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10). The master artist has so much He wants to create in our lives – potentials we could never imagine. But rather than simply mimic the patterns of others He needs us to allow Him to mould us – and this we can only do by praying, filling ourselves daily with His Word, and faithfully trusting in his design in our lives. Then we will become the masterpiece He has designed us to be. Let us pray – "You, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." (Isaiah 64:8). Amen.
