It's Sunday and the crowd is crying in joy. "A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted, 'Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!'" (John 12:12-13). And then just five days later on Friday the crowd is crying for blood. "They all answered, 'Crucify him!'" (Matthew 27:20,22). In just five days the crowd turns from praise to violence. How is that possible? On the Sunday they were influenced by the news of others who had seen the miracle of Lazarus raised from the dead (John 12:17). On the Friday they were influenced by the chief priests and elders who "persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed" (Matthew 27:20). It's horrifying to see how a people can change so quickly simply based on what the crowd says. It's a dire warning to us. We live in a world where the crowds of social media have a greater influence on us than at any other time. "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2). How is the social media crowd impacting your relationship with God? (Craig B).
