We recently went to watch a Sharks vs Stormers rugby match in Cape Town. As Sharks supporters, we were massively in the minority. Many people made comments and mocked our Sharks shirts, especially since the Stormers hadn’t lost a game in eight matches. However against all odds the Sharks ended up winning. It really made me think about how we wear our “shirts” as followers of Christ. How often do we actually walk around openly and confidently showing that we follow Him? In today’s world, it can feel uncomfortable to speak about God, because just like we were mocked for wearing our Sharks shirts, people can mock our faith too. But being a follower of Christ isn’t about blending in or staying quiet when it’s unpopular. Sometimes we will be in the minority, and sometimes we may be mocked but that doesn’t change who we belong to. Jesus reminds us of this when He says: Matthew 5:11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” (Hannah H) Open Bible – bit.ly/Mat5v11
