Cleopatra, Einstein – most of us recognise these names. Eve, Moses? Also familiar. But Joanna and Susanna? Huh? Yet these women must have been remarkable. We meet them briefly: “Jesus travelled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene), Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others.” (Luke 8:1-3). They travelled with Jesus. They were part of His mission that would change the world. But there’s more: “These women were helping to support Jesus and the disciples” (Luke 8:3). While Jesus preached service, they were living it with him. But there’s more: “These women were helping to support Jesus and the disciples out of their own means” (Luke 8:3). Wow. They were quietly modelling the very gospel Jesus would fulfil – serving others at great personal cost. We are called to that same kind of service. And the greatest acts of service are often the ones no one sees. How can you silently serve someone today? (Craig B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Luk8v1-3
