We love walking – walking in the mountains, walking in nature, walking in scenic villages, walking in any interesting place. But, while these may all be beautiful places to walk in, there is one place where we must all walk in – “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” (2 John 1:6). We may not always be able to choose to walk in beautiful places, but we can always choose to walk in love. In fact, walking in love itself is most beautiful when walking in the most terrible of places. Jesus, carrying the deadly weight of his cross, walking toward his crucifixion, turned and said to those crying, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.” (Luke 23:28). He was warning them about the terrible destruction that would come upon them at the hands of the Romans. Despite his suffering, he cared more for those around him as he walked to make the ultimate sacrifice of love. Today, wherever you may walk, take a moment to turn and look.
