We were watching a flock of sheep grazing on a mountain slope when a shepherd and his sheepdog appeared. The dog immediately bounded up the steep incline, responding to every call and whistle from the shepherd. Within minutes, the scattered sheep were rounded up and guided safely down the mountain before darkness fell. It was beautiful to watch—and deeply spiritual too. We are like those sheep. Life leads us into open pastures, but when night falls or danger nears, we need guidance to return safely. Jesus is our ultimate Shepherd. But just as the shepherd worked with his dog, Jesus appoints helpers—pastors, teachers, and guides. “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers” (Ephesians 4:11). Why? “To equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church” (Ephesians 4:12). They are a gift—people who chase after us when we wander, who call us back with love and wisdom, who help keep us walking in the light. Today, let’s take a moment to thank God for those who guide and care for us. They are his hands and voice, leading us gently down the mountain. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/eph4v11-12 (Craig B)
