Withholding good

Withholding good

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” (Proverbs 3:27)  – A poor kid and his younger brother are sitting on the side of the road admiring a shiny new sports car parked nearby. As they look on in awe a man walks up to the car and says, “What do you think boys?”  The older boy immediately relies “Wow. It sure is a fancy nice car sir.” The man replies, “Yes, sure is. And do you know what? My brother gave it to me as a gift”. The boys’ eyes are wide in awe. After a moment the older boy says, “Wow, I sure wish….” he pauses and the man knows what’s coming next, “I sure wish I had a brother like that.” However, the boy turns to his younger brother and says to him, “I sure wish I could be a brother like that.”  We all have opportunities every day to do good to those around us – from a smile, a “thank you”, a helping hand, giving of our time or attention. The list is long, and the opportunities endless. We all have a brother like that – Jesus, who gave us everything. Will you choose to be a brother like him today?
