We are driving along a remote Namibian road when we are stopped by a police officer. After asking for my license, he says, “I am Plaajies from Kietmanshoop”. I am flummoxed for a moment and then reply with my name and home town. It’s unusual to get a greeting like this from a police officer. After wishing us a pleasant journey, we were on our way. It got me thinking. How do we usually introduce ourselves? Maybe with an honorary title, like Dr. or Prof., if we have one. Or our name and company name. It’s unusual to introduce ourselves with our name and hometown. Yet, where we come from says a lot about us. It’s our family, our heritage, our home. Imagine if your home is heaven; what would that say about you? Your family and your heritage are God. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” (Philippians 3:20-21).
