Spiritual fitness

I was running a 15k and dreading it. Four years ago, when I was running ultramarathons, this distance would have felt like a walk in the park. Today, I was tired and needed many walk breaks to complete the distance. Isn’t it sad that we can’t hold onto our fitness? As the saying goes. “Use it or lose it”. It’s the same with our spiritual fitness. When Israel was entering the promised land, Joshua gave them this instruction – “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8). When we stop reading God’s word, attending church, or praying we become spiritually unfit and life will become difficult and burdensome. With daily reading and following God’s word, God promises a life that is prosperous and successful. Draw near to God every day, and he will draw near to you (James 4:8).
