Never before have we lived in a world where there is so much knowledge but at the same time so many opinions and so many “truths”. It can be overwhelming. A true and unshakable faith is not built only on what we hear but also on what we see. There’s a story in the gospel of John about a man who was born blind. Jesus makes some mud and places it on his eyes. When he washes it off, he can see. However, rather than causing a celebration, the Pharisees use their “superior” theology to condemn Jesus, saying, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” (John 9:16). This results in much debate among the people until the Pharisees finally proclaim, “We know this man is a sinner” (John 9:24). What does the poor blind man know compared to the vast knowledge of these religious leaders? But, he replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (John 9:25). He has experienced the miracle of Jesus. No theological arguments, no brilliant “wisdom” can shake this. He has not only heard the Word; he has seen him.
