One of the most intimate prayers recorded in Scripture is Jesus' final prayer before His crucifixion. In the Garden, knowing the suffering that lay ahead, He revealed His deepest desire to His Father. Jesus prayed, "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message." (John 17:20). Remarkably, Jesus was praying not only for His disciples but for all who would believe in Him, including us. What was His great request? Unity. "That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you." (John 17:21). Jesus longed for His followers to share in the same loving relationship that exists between the Father and the Son. He desired that God's love would dwell in His children and that Christ Himself would live in them, praying "that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them." (John 17:26). The command God gives His children is wonderfully simple: believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another (1 John 3:23). When we trust in Christ and walk in love, we live in God and God lives in us through His Spirit. Believe in Jesus, love one another, and enjoy the unity, fellowship, and love your Heavenly Father delights to share with His children. (Nicky B).
