It’s silly, I know. We are doing a run and as part of our health insurance’s reward program, and we need to reach the required average heart rate. However, my wife’s watch is not reading her pulse; when it does, it is on the downhill, and her pulse is low. She complains and worries about it as we run. Over and over, she says, “I’m not going to make it”. “It’s silly I know to worry about this,” I think to myself. “I am sure it will turn out fine”. Later in the run, I notice my average heart rate is low as we are struggling up a hill. I try and run faster. I’m not going to make the required rate. It’s silly, I know. At the end of the run, as we relax in the pool, we have both achieved the required heart rate. It all turned out fine despite our concerns. Isn’t this how life is? We know that the Bible says, “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal” (Isaiah 26:4). We quote this to others when they are worrying about things. Yet as soon as life’s issues come upon us – large or small – we complain. We worry. I’m not going to make it. It’s silly, I know.
