“Stay quiet. Don’t move,” comes the urgent instruction from our game ranger. We are on a game safari and a huge bull elephant has suddenly and threateningly approached our open vehicle. His instruction is the opposite of what we want to do as everything in us tells us to scream or hide or run in response to the huge visceral threat. After a few tense minutes the elephant finally leaves with an angry shake of its huge head. The guide knew more about elephant behavior than we did, and following his advice, even if it felt wrong, was the best thing to do. “Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” (Galatians 5:16). God knows infinitely more about human behavior than we do. Let God guide your life, even when everything in you tells you to do what you think or feel is right, or what others or social media tell you to do. God is the greatest guide on our life’s safari. Only he can keep us safe.
