There is a song I used to enjoy singing with the children at Sunday School. “O Be careful little tongue what you say. O be careful little tongue what you say. For the Father up above Is looking down in love. So, be careful little tongue, what you say.” But how much more appropriate is this song for adults? How careful are we with the words that come out of our mouths and their impact on others? Paul shares some powerful words which we all need to pay careful attention to. “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing you will be saved on the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behaviour. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:29-32). How beautiful our world and our life would be if we practised these behaviours every day. Today, let words of kindness, love, and forgiveness dominate your speech.
