Cattle on the summit

Cattle on the summit

“Phew. What a climb,” I say as we finally reach the top. After two hours of hiking and 500 metres of elevation, we’ve arrived at Lac d’Anglas, ready for a refreshing dip in the alpine lake. While we expected to find other hikers, what we didn’t expect was a herd of cattle calmly grazing on the mountaintop. How they got up here is beyond me—but there they were, utterly at peace among the alpine peaks. Their presence reminded me of God’s words: “For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:10). It’s easy to forget this world isn’t ours. Every animal, every tree, every lake and flower belongs to God. Even the cattle grazing up here. So, what could we possibly offer Him that He doesn’t already own? He tells us: “Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God” (Psalms 50:14). As I sit by this quiet mountain lake, surrounded by rugged snow-dotted peaks, I’m reminded that gratitude is the one gift we can always give. The beauty is His. The world is His. But the thankfulness? That’s ours to offer. Thank you Lord. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Psa50v10-14 (Craig B)
