Ahead is scary. Behind is regretful. Above is the solution. We can all live life afraid of what lies ahead and regretful about what lies behind us. Living like this leads to despair. Unless we look up and see God above. It’s then that the words of the Psalmist change everything. It’s then that our perspective changes. It’s then that we realise that what lies ahead and behind changes completely because of who is above. “You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!”(Psalms 139:5-6). What a promise. God is already in your future. God has already taken care of your past – wiping your sins. All we need to do is accept his hand of blessing from above. And as the Psalmist says, this is just too “wonderful for me”. Today, whatever fears you have for what lies before you, whatever regrets for what’s done behind you, look up and know God is above you, before you and behind you. How wonderful is that!
