After learning about the sad loss of my father-in-law, we were hit with more sad news. The unexpected loss of both another dear friend as well as my brother-in-law’s mum. Three precious people in 24 hours. These three people, though different in many ways, were similar—quiet, loving, and faithful servants of God. They didn’t seek the spotlight, but were always caring, always serving, always present. In a world where many chase attention, their quiet spirit of service stands out. Their lives remind us of Paul’s words: “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands… so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders” (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12). Then, as if Paul knew we would lose them, he continues: “We do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death… For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him” (4:3-14). What a hope. Their lives are a quiet shouting reminder of what is truly good. “So encourage each other with these words” (4:18). Open Bible – https://bit.ly/1Th4v11-18 (Craig B)
