I decided to do at least one half marathon a month this year. This isn’t super difficult, but to do it comfortably means keeping my fitness up. This goal has motivated me to run even when I didn’t feel like it. The real reason behind this commitment is knowing each run contributes to a greater purpose—staying healthy, not just checking off another half marathon. It made me think about my spiritual goals. I have a goal to read the Bible daily, but my goal often stops there. This helps me start my morning right, but I feel even closer to God with a bigger goal, like preparing for an upcoming talk. During times like these, God is constantly on my mind, searching for patterns and themes in His Word and sharing it with others. When our spiritual goals are too small, we can limit God’s plan for a greater purpose in our lives. He tells us, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20-21). If you think you lack knowledge, don’t limit God: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).
