In Proverbs, Solomon writes, “The beginning of wisdom is: acquire wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7) This might sound a bit strange, but I think the key lies in the meaning of the word “acquire”. The Hebrew word suggests an intense desire to own, buy, or attain something. So, Solomon’s advice is that we begin on the path of Wisdom by having an intense desire for it. Wisdom is so precious that we should be prepared to sell everything we have to get it. (See Matt 13v45-46). So, where can we go to get this wisdom? Solomon gives us the answer to that question also when he says, “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2v6). Let us approach the Lord with this intense desire for Wisdom, and He will bless us with knowledge and understanding.
