After reading “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Victor Frankl, which details his horrific experience in the Nazi concentration camps, I was left in awe of his unwavering attitude in the face of unimaginable adversity. The key message of the book, for me, was the literal death-defying result of hope. Victor Frankl explains how the prisoners who first lost hope were the first to succumb to physical and mental illness and, ultimately, the first to perish. Coincidence? I think not. As Christian’s we are not only empowered by the hope of Jesus’ return as we long for the day foretold in the book of Revelation where “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4), but we are further strengthened by the fact that Jesus has already overcome the world through his death and resurrection. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Rejoice! The new creation has begun. Let us live in the greatest hope possible, God’s new creation.
