Your Dash Of Love

Every one of us will ultimately have just two major points in life: the day we are born and the day we die. Between them sits a dash — a dash of opportunity. What fills that dash is what makes a life stark or stunning, empty or rich with meaning. Jesus painted this picture vividly: "'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'" (Matthew 25:34-36) These are not grand heroic acts. They are the small, deliberate choices to reach across the gap between one human being and another. They are the lines drawn between the points. God's entire story with humanity is a story of relationship — from the garden in Genesis to the wedding feast in Revelation — because "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." (1 John 4:16) And by living that love outward, something remarkable happens: "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:35) Use your dash well.
