There's a saying: what goes up must come down. This is a natural law of gravity – throw a ball into the air and it will come down. But today we remember something far more significant: Ascension Day. This is the day Jesus ascended into heaven, 40 days after he rose from the dead. "After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God." (Mark 16:19). Yet this is not the end of the story, because what goes up must come down. While the disciples stood looking intently into the sky, "suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 'Men of Galilee,' they said, 'why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.'" (Acts 1:10-11). The signs Jesus warned us of are happening like never before. He is coming back, whether we are ready or not. "Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory." (Matthew 24:30). (Craig B).
