If you had to describe what is wrong with society today, what would you put at the top of the list? Two thousand years ago, the Bible in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 gave us the list. It’s a list of what people would be like in the “terrible time in the last days”. And topping the list is – “People will be lovers of themselves”. We have never lived in a time like today when so many people are obsessed with self and our own “truth” and pleasures. A love affair with self that has led to a world filled with people, as the list continues, who are “covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God”. All of the items on this terrible list are rampant in our world. However, we were warned that this would happen, and although it is distressing to see this terrible moral collapse, we know that this is another certain sign of the imminent return of Jesus.
