Who is the church?

Who is the church?

I remember the priest of my childhood church always asking the same question – “Who is the church?”. We would then respond in chorus, “We are the church”. Years later, the significance of that statement dawned on me. The church is not an object, no matter how grand the cathedral or how beautiful the stained glass windows are. The church is a living body made up of its members, you and me. We should not simply attend church as we attend work or school, arriving and clocking off once our “shift” ends. We are actually living, moving parts of the church. And the great thing is that the Spirit of God dwells in us, as we are the living stones of his new temple. God chooses to dwell in you, not in the beautifully designed tabernacle adorned with gold or the great temple, but in you. Our holy and wondrous God can dwell in us, his living church, because of what Jesus has done for us, cleansing us of our sins and making us holy and acceptable to God. “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” (1 Corinthians 3:16). Let our lives reflect that we are God’s temple and that he dwells in us. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/1co3v16 (Jeremy G)
