I enjoy watching reality game shows as they give such an insight into human behaviour. A recent Trust game show depicted how people who encouraged others to join them to take out another player would soon do the same to the person that trusted them. It’s a human trait we see thousands of years ago. Jerusalem is in trouble, surrounded by an enemy army. King Hezekiah is encouraging the people to trust God in this seemingly impossible situation. The enemy commander says this: “Don’t listen to Hezekiah. Listen to the king of Assyria’s offer: ‘Make peace with me. Come and join me. Everyone will end up with a good life, with plenty of land and water, and eventually something far better…Don’t let Hezekiah mislead you with his lies, ‘God will save us.’” (Isaiah 36:16–20). This is exactly the same offer we hear every day from the world. We will care for you. We will give you a good life. Don’t let God mislead you with his lies. Trust us. And foolishly many listen, only to rely on unreliable, self-interest motivated people. Like with Hezekiah, it’s only those who trust God who will find true peace and rest. Don’t be misled by the world’s offers of a good life. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Isa36v16-20 (Craig B)
