The proof and the promise

The proof and the promise

In 1879, an archaeologist unearthed a baked clay cylinder among the ruins of Babylon. Inscribed in cuneiform, it recorded King Cyrus the Great’s decree: exiled people were to return to their homelands, their temples restored, and freedom of worship granted. Remarkably, the prophet Isaiah had foretold this over 150 years earlier: “I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness… He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free” (Isaiah 45:13). This discovery confirmed God’s words as real, verifiable history. But Isaiah didn’t stop there. He also prophesied a greater future still to come: “For unto us a Child is born… And the government will be upon His shoulder… Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:6–7). That everlasting kingdom, ruled by Jesus, is not a myth—it’s a promise. Just as Cyrus came, so will Christ return to reign in peace. Will you be part of that eternal future?
