As we near the end of the year, let us reflect on what God says about the state of the world before Jesus’ return. “But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” (Luke 18:8). “For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred” (2 Timothy 3:2, 4). Written 2000 years ago, these verses are a striking description of today’s world. Studies predict that Christianity will experience the largest decline of any religion between 2010 and 2050. In Zephaniah, God gives a solemn warning to those who abandon Him: “And I will destroy those who used to worship me but now no longer do. They no longer ask for the LORD’s guidance or seek my blessings” (Zephaniah 1:6). This is a sobering reminder to prayerfully examine whether we seek God’s guidance and blessings daily. Our Heavenly Father longs to guide us on the best path for our lives. As we enter the New Year, let us make it our prayer to faithfully seek Him every day.
