Do you find the Bible overwhelming to read or follow? So many rules and commandments. Why does God expect so much from us? Often, we feel God wrote His commandments so we would know how to please Him. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His commandments were not written for His benefit but for ours. God is sharing through His word how we should live so that we can enjoy a long, rewarding life filled with love, peace, and joy. In the gospels, Jesus takes all of God’s commandments and summarises them into one sentence. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12). God’s commandments have to do with our relationships with others. He asks us to treat others how we want them to treat us. Do you want to be treated with disrespect, anger, hate and unkindness or with respect, peace, love, generosity, and kindness?
