Taker or Maker

Taker or Maker

There is an important contrast in the opening scenes of the Bible. The story begins with God making our planet and us.“Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image’” (Genesis 1:26). After this, Adam and Eve sin by eating the forbidden fruit. “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.” (Genesis 3:6). The difference? God is a maker, while Adam and Eve are takers. And this dividing characteristic continues until today. We have two approaches to life. We can be those who take or those who make. Those who tear down or those who build up. Those who “bite and devour each other..(and are) destroyed by each other” (Galatians 5:15). Or those who “encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). We all have a choice every day of our lives. Will I be like Adam and Eve, grasping at whatever I can for my pleasure and power or like God, creating a world of peace and love? “Blessed are the peaceMAKERS, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).
