Returning to my brother’s home not long after a terrible fire burnt everything all around his house, I was amazed by the sounds of the birds. They were all singing, continuing on their life as though nothing had happened. It struck me that while we are impacted by the things we lose, the birds simply continue on, despite the terrible change of conditions. Jesus shares a lesson about this in His first sermon: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26). Of course we are much more valuable in God’s sight, but the difference is, as Jesus points out, our trust. The birds, by instinct, trust that God will provide. However, we as humans often don’t have this trust. We worry about what we have and what we might lose. But Jesus’ message is simple: “do not worry” (Matthew 6:31). Instead, He tells us: “Seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). God is in control of every detail of your life. Whatever is going on, give Him your song of praise; He will care for you. (Craig B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Matt6v26-34
