It came slowly, then quickly. We flew from Miami to Denver. The pilot said, “Welcome to the mile high city.” I didn’t think much of it as we drove to Rocky Mountain National Park. With enthusiasm, we hiked to see the frozen lakes. I noticed a slight headache that worsened as we progressed. By the time we reached our accommodation, I was “man down” and had to sleep. Welcome notes at our AirBnB warned of altitude sickness, caused by less oxygen. We even saw stores selling canned oxygen. The impact came slowly, then became overwhelming. It is the exact same effect in our daily lives. We can starve God’s Spirit as we strive to achieve higher goals. We make more time for our own pursuits and less time for God. At first, it might just be a slight discomfort, but before we know it, we collapse as we experience life without His Spirit. “Do not quench the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:19). Breathe God in, always, no matter how high you seek to climb. (Craig Blewett) Open Bible – bit.ly/1Th5v19
