Sing to the Lord

Sing to the Lord

Psalm 96 begins with the call: “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth” (Psalm 96:1). The “new song” is a recurring theme in Psalms and Revelation, representing three profound truths. First, it reflects a fresh revelation of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Second, it is a response of worship to His ongoing work of salvation and redemption. Third, it anticipates Jesus’ final victory and the restoration of all things. In Revelation, the redeemed sing to Jesus: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9). Later, we hear of the new song sung before the throne: “No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth” (Revelation 14:3). This powerful theme calls us to join the eternal chorus of praise. Let us respond today and always: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150:6).
