We were recently driving along a long dusty farm road. It was a scorching 40c day. We passed a flock of sheep huddled together in a desperate attempt to shade each other. We felt so sorry for them and would have loved to provide them with a huge shady tree to shelter from the scorching sun. The sheep made me think of us. God created us with the freewill to choose Him to be our protection from the evil and hurt around us. But sadly, we often reject his loving offer. We choose rather to suffer the heat and pain of anger, hatred, greed, jealousy, unfaithfulness, envy, and selfishness. We are left exhausted, desperate, and exposed. Yet still we reject God’s shelter. The people in the time of Jesus were the same, unwilling to experience God’s protection and peace. “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” (Matthew 23:37). King David understood the need for God’s shelter. ”I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings” (Psalm 61:4). Today are you going to be like those who reject the shelter God supplies or in faith take shelter under his wings? Open Bible – http://bit.ly/psa61v4, http://bit.ly/mat23v37
