Most of us, when we ask someone for something, tend to be quite reserved. This is often the case when we pray too. Jesus tells a story about a man who wakes his neighbour at night to borrow food for a guest, finishing with this: "I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need." (Luke 11:8). Then Jesus continues — "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." (Luke 11:9-10). He is inviting us to be bold and audacious in prayer. But notice — the man in the parable wasn't asking for himself. He was asking for someone else. Jesus is calling us to pray boldly on behalf of others. Who are you praying for? Those who are sick? Lonely? Struggling financially? Living in danger? Whatever it is, be audacious and ask for God's superabundance — he will do more than you could ever think or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). (Craig B).
