No reflection

I wrote a meditation on Jesus as the ultimate example of sacrifice, with the core message that we too are called to sacrifice. As part of an Advent Ascent challenge, I set aside 20 minutes to reflect on this while walking our dogs to the beach. But our dogs don’t walk, they sniff. Every shrub, rock, and scent demanded full attention. At first, I let them sniff while I meditated. But eventually, frustration boiled over. “I just can’t do this meditation while walking the dogs!” I snapped. The irony hit later. I was meditating on sacrifice, and rejected a small one when it came. Why is it so easy to write, hear, or even teach truth, and yet fail to apply it ourselves? James puts it plainly: “Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says… Anyone who listens… but does not do… is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and… forgets what he looks like.” (James 1:22–24). Transformation doesn’t come from hearing truth, it comes from living it. What reflection are you failing to see today? (Craig B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/jam1v22-24
