“No place safe in Gaza as fighting rages”. “Deadly earthquake strikes Nepal”. “Hundreds missing as Hurricane hits Mexico”. We are living in a world where news of famines, floods, fires, earthquakes, and wars are a regular occurrence. Jesus warned us 2000 years ago what the conditions in the world would be like just before his return. “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:7-8). It’s easy to get despondent when all you hear is bad news. But Jesus said this is the beginning of the birth pains. As contractions increase just before the birth of a baby, so conditions in our world will get increasingly worse just before the return of Jesus. “But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” (Jude 1:20-21). The bad news means the good news of Jesus’ return is imminent. Put your faith in God, and He will keep you in his love until the glorious appearing of Jesus.
