Two thousand years ago, Jesus’ disciples asked, “What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3). Jesus then gave a list of the signs we will see just before he returns. How many do you see today in our world? Unparalleled deceit – “Watch out that no one deceives you…false messiahs and false prophets will appear and deceive many people” (v4-5,11). Wars and fear of war – “You will hear of wars and rumours of wars” (v6-7). Natural disasters – “There will be famines and earthquakes” (v7). Hate and intolerance because of your belief – “you will be handed over to be persecuted…you will be hated” (v9). Many losing their belief in God and hating those who continue to believe – “many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other…and the love of most will grow cold” (v10,12). Never before have these signs been more true than today, as God has been removed from all aspects of life. However, Jesus says – “but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (v13).
