“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light.” (Genesis 1:1-3). And everything changed. Darkness became light. And with light can life. It’s the beginning of the story of the Bible. So too when Jesus died. Darkness covered our world. A spiritual darkness. And then the Spirit came in brilliant light. “There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow” (Matthew 28:2-3). And the most amazing declaration ever spoken was given to the women who had come in their darkness to this place of despair. “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen” (Matthew 28:5-6). The light of the world, the light of life, rose from the grave because not even death itself could hold him. And so the new creation burst forth, a creation of men and women forgiven, redeemed, and given hope by the light of life – Jesus. Today know this – “He has risen”.
