During their journey through the desert to the promised land, the nation of Israel was provided with a gift – bread from heaven. They called it manna because they didn’t know what it was. Each morning they were told to go out and collect this sustaining food lying on the ground. But there was one instruction: “The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day” (Exodus 16:4). This was important – only take what you need. Some ignored this and took more, but it became “full of maggots and began to smell” (Exodus 16:20). God was teaching the people, and us, an important lesson. He will provide for our daily needs – just enough. The moment we want more than this, we risk the maggots and bad smell. We might amass wealth or possessions only to find it leads to a life full of worms. “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10). The teaching is simple: “If we have enough food and clothing, let us be content” (1 Timothy 6:8). God knows what brings true contentment. Let’s trust Him to provide just what we need each and every day. (Craig B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Exo16v4, https://bit.ly/1Ti6v8-10
