“My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Reading this recently, I was struck by something—Jesus, although perfect, says that His power needs our weakness to be perfect. That’s crazy. What does He mean? One way to understand this is to think of medicine designed to treat a terrible condition. If it sits on the shelf, despite its power, it is not fulfilling its purpose. It’s only when someone sick takes it that it completes its purpose. Jesus is perfect power. He is the confluence of all God’s Spirit love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. But He is more than this. He is activated to change lives. He is perfection made perfect in our weakness. Jesus offers to let us experience life through Him, in a way we could never do alone. He is holding out this offer to you. As Paul says, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9). JES_S – What is missing?
