God is often seen as unreachable – an authority to be feared and obeyed. But look at the deeply personal relationships He shared with key figures in Scripture. Abraham was a friend of God: “Abraham believed God, and he was called God’s friend” (James 2:23). God spoke with Moses face to face: “The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Exodus 33:11). David was a man after God’s own heart: “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do” (Acts 13:22). Daniel was beloved: “Daniel, you are very precious to God” (Daniel 10:11). If God feels far away, remember the closeness He offered them. That same intimacy is what He wants to share with you. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
