From Fear to Faith

From Fear to Faith

I am frozen with fear halfway up a ladder on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I look down at the whitecaps far below. Though I’m in a guided group, I’m climbing this section alone, exposed to rain and wind. Suddenly, I feel paralyzed and alone, gripped by panic. Almost everyone will face fear that can cripple us, like public speaking, losing loved ones, or feeling trapped. Fear makes us feel helpless and unable to act. But God wants us to overcome fear with His Spirit. “The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). Trusting in God’s presence helps our faith overcome fear. On the bridge, I cried out to Jesus, trusting He would help me. He did. I moved closer, raised my hands, stepped up, and stopped looking down. Fear can be a key to unlocking trust. To overcome it, I:

1. Name the fear (fear of being trapped).

2. Seek its origin (a childhood accident).

3. Release it to Jesus. (pray and talk to him)

4. Affirm trust daily (“Lord, I trust you with all that I am—you deliver me from all my fears”).

Fear is natural and sometimes life-saving, but the bridge climb taught me to turn sustained fear into faith. This method helps me every time, and it can help you too. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/2Ti1v7 (Geoff W)
