While walking my dog, I saw my neighbour’s cat had cornered a mouse. I wondered why he froze instead of attempting to escape. I learned that mice exposed to cat urine while nursing associate the predator’s scent with safety. They become trapped in dangerous situations with no fear, even though they experience increased stress and potential death. What is a little mouse to do in a world of cats? I’m reminded of David’s words about our troubles in a dangerous world. “You brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God. Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.” (Psalm 22: 9-11). What hope do we have, born into an evil world? The psalmist tells us! “From the deadly sword God will deliver me; rescue me from the hands of foreigners. Then there will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the Lord.” (Psalm 144:10-15). Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Psa144v10-15, http://bit.ly/Psa22v9-11 (Kim B)
