Circadian Rhythm

Circadian Rhythm

This Franschhoek winter has been a chilly adjustment for me, having spent most of my life in Durban. The toughest part isn’t the cold but the dark morning hours. The sun struggles to rise over the mountain pass, withholding its rays until almost 8am. I am no morning person, and waking up in the cold and dark has shifted my body clock to later hours. Our body clock, influenced by light and dark, is called the circadian rhythm. It’s recommended to align your sleep patterns with natural light and maintain a consistent schedule. Morning sunlight helps regulate our body clocks, disrupting this cycle can affect our health. Why is this important? Just as our bodies are impacted by light and darkness, so are our minds and hearts. We must let God’s light into our lives daily to help regulate our ‘spiritual rhythm’ in a world often filled with darkness. We have peace in knowing “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). Let us align ourselves with God, for “God is light; in him, there is no darkness. If we claim fellowship with him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth” (1 John 1:5-9). Open Bible – https://bit.ly/joh1v5, http://bit.ly/1Jo1v5-9 (Jeremy G)
